Thank you for your continued support, it really does mean the world to us. I recently got back from visiting the refugee camps up in Uganda and thought I would share some of the small life lessons learned while there.
Our circumstances can never define who we are, what we become or who God created us to be unless we allow them.
Meet Pastor Anthony Felix, one of the pastors In context International works within Uganda amongst the refugees. A story of perseverance, hardship, trust, faith, hope, grace, transformation and love.
At the age of 10, he was taken away from his family by the rebel forces to become a child soldier, as South Sudan fought for independence from North Sudan. I can’t even begin to fathom or understand everything he had to go through, endure and face at a very young age.
Nevertheless, God had a different plan for his life. Anthony gave his life to the Lord Jesus whilst in prison and that was the beginning of a new & transformational journey.
The majority of the South Sudanese refugees are women/children who have lost everything, from their homes to their livelihood and some even their very own families. Forced to flee and seek refuge in the neighboring Uganda, where the United Nations provides 12kg of mealie meal, 3 cups of beans and half a cup of cooking oil per month. During our time in Uganda, we stayed at the Orphanage Anthony runs, with 61 orphanages under his care.
As someone who knows what it’s like to have your family taken away from you at a very young age, his desire is for these precious children not go through some of what he went through, as he seeks to provide them with an environment where they will know they are precious, valued, loved and most Importantly have a purpose in this world!!!
As you and I celebrate Christmas in the next few days with family, relatives, and friends lets take time to reflect, appreciate and cherish the little things God has blessed us with in our lives, knowing that it doesn’t only end there, but we are to be a blessing to others too. That’s how we take a step to change the world bit by bit.
