Life Lessons

I once heard it said, “Once you’ve tasted purpose, you’ll never go back to living a mediocre life.”
– Robin S Bhebhe(CEO of Outclass Crystallized Gems)

These very words rang true for me when I visited the biggest refugee camp in Africa, December 2019. Meeting old and young people who had lost everything(homes, livelihoods, family, friends) in the face of a civil war, was overwhelming.

Yet these beautiful people remained cheerful, kind, loving, hopeful & joyful. Trying to make sense of their attitudes towards life, despite the hardship & turmoil they constantly faced didn’t make sense.

Despite having nothing, the beautiful people of South-Sudan made sure we felt at home, as we spent a week in the refugee camp going through life with them. I’ll never forget the taste of thee most awesome goat stew I had ever tasted. It certainly was a humbling and challenging experience, but worth every important life lesson learnt.

THEE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON BEING:

“We live in a world facing many challenges which have a direct impact on millions of people’s lives. War, starvation, displacement, poverty, global warming, COVID-19 to name a few. The need, hurt & pain being experienced throughout the world is overwhelming. Therefore, as a child of God you cannot afford to live for yourself. God hears the cries and sees the tears of His children, and uses His children to be His hand’s and feet on the ground spreading joy, peace, kindness, patience & love. In other words, becoming the change you want to see in the world.”

As the world unites to fight a global pandemic, the United Nations resources have come under-strain, therefore leaving the vulnerable(refugees all over the world) in a much more vulnerable state. Hope Ministries supports and takes care of Orphans, Widows and the Elderly. I had the awesome privilege of meeting the 60 orphans the ministry supports and witnessing myself the amazing work being done.

If you would like to learn more or contribute to the project in one form or another, please do not hesitate to contact me. Whether it’s helping put food on the table, or donating clothes to be distributed among the kids, supplying gloves/hand-sanitizers in protection against COV-19 or supporting the kids that are driven to finish their education in order to create an opportunity for them to provide a better livelihood for their communities. The opportunity to make a positive impact on the world and build a lasting legacy is constantly open.
